Warwick Johnson Cadwell is a British illustrator who decided to set himself a task: for the next 100 days, draw one panel for a comic, each day. The result is called “100 Days in the Gungle”, a silent comic in which a hunting party of beautiful jungle queens go after a giant purple frog. There is also a coconut robot involved. Ahum. Well… I’m sure it will all make sense in the end, no? Besides, who cares? There are jungle queens! Yeej!
I must admit I had never heard about mister Cadwell before. I only found out about him this morning because this story was on Drawn! As I started checking out some of his illustration work and his blog, I was happy to discover an illustrator with not only a very pleasant drawing style but first and foremost a very good eye for composition. You’ll see what I mean when you take a closer look at some of the Gungle pictures….
The 100 days are over now and Cadwell is selling the individual panels, mainly A6 pencil drawings on Bristol board. Each drawing will be accompanied by a digital colour print of the finished art. If you are interested you should visit his blog.
