Street art: Sten + Lex

4586045547_ea83ba3b3b

Sten and Lex are Italian street artists who enjoy coming up with their very own special techniques. They often work with stencils which they cut out of paper and paste on wood. When they pull back the stencil they leave some of it pasted on, hereby creating a not-reproducible piece which they call a “stencil poster”. (You can see a video of this here).

In a recent piece they made a painted poster of 26x12 meters on the side of a building in Garbatella, a neighborhood where they are crazy about football (soccer) and the club AS Roma. The images on the poster are a wolf and Totti, the captain of the club. Check out the video below…

If you want to see more work of Sten and Lex, try their Flickr pages.

Also worth paying a visit to is cuaderno de frases encontradas, a blog filled with sketches of overheard conversations.

Adam the Velcro Suit

I’m sure you’ve heard of this South African graphic designer/illustrator before, but I just couldn’t resist showing some of his gorgeous work here. Plenty of blogs have featured his work, but nevertheless it is hard to find a lot of factual information about the man. The people at Black Harbor, however, managed to interview him. Go there if you want to find out why so many of his posters are for the “post-core” band The Sleepers….

Studio visit (11): Chris Rubino

Chris Rubino is a New York City-based designer, artist and illustrator. Amongst his clients are The New York Times and Urban Outfitters, but he is perhaps best known for the digital collages he made for the elevator lobbies of the Manhattan District Hotel.

In this short video we seem him at his enviable studio in Brooklyn, where he talks about digital layering, comic books and how screenprinting is just an approximation of life.

Paper View (2): Chris Piascik

Our second installment in this new series. Chris Piascik is a freelance graphic designer and illustrator, known for his hand lettered type, daily drawings and apparel, prints and zines which get sold at his online store Print Brigade Check out the rest of his own work here but also take a look at his Typostruction tumblr where he posts all kinds of hand drawn typography (from other people and occasionally from himself).

(By the way, this video gets extra points because it such a beauty. It is made by a guy called Stebs and I’ve posted another film of him on this blog before. He has lots more films which you can find on Vimeo. Try this one for instance….)

But for now, let’s first take a look at Mr Piascik’s skills…

Paper View (1): Tia Boon Sim

Once more, a new series on Monsieur Bandit! As simple as it gets, really: videos of people drawing. I love watching them. Hope you’ll like them, too…

The first in the series is by Tia Boon Sim, an architect/educator from Singapore who is also on the board of directors of “Urban Sketchers” (If you never heard of them before, check out their blog with tons of sketches and stuff at urbansketchers.com).

I hope I’ll find plenty of nice videos, but I’ve promised myself to be quite selective. This one sure made the cut…

Enjoy.
