ROA is a prolific street artist from Ghent, Belgium. If the name doesn’t ring any bells, seeing the work surely will. The film focuses mainly on a recent gallery show he did at White Walls in San Francisco. Be warned, however, some parts are not for the squeamish!

A documentary about Victor, a talented street artist from Valparaiso, Chile. Not a happy guy. Restless. Confused, maybe. Not sure where he wants to go, who he wants to be. He marks the streets with his tag “Odio”, which means “hatred”. And yet, all the while, there’s his soft spoken voice, carefully choosing his words…

It’s nice to see how these two keep putting out nice videos of their work. This time they went to Mexico where they were invited by the art promoter Mamutt Arte and the Antique Toy Museum of Mexico to make a mural.

Say what?
Graffiti Markup Language (.gml) is a universal, XML based, open file format designed to store graffiti motion data (x and y coordinates and time). The format is designed to maximize readability and ease of implementation, even for hobbyist programmers, artists and graffiti writers. Popular applications currently implementing GML include Graffiti Analysis and EyeWriter. Beyond storing data, a main goal of GML is to spark interest surrounding the importance (and fun) of open data and introduce open source collaborations to new communities. GML is intended to be a simple bridge between ink and code, promoting collaborations between graffiti writers and hackers. GML is today’s new digital standard for tomorrow’s vandals.

He is called a Robot Master, an Open Source Provocateur and a super hybrid engineer designer. James Powderly co-founded (with Evan Roth) Graffiti Research Lab and F.A.T. (Free Art & Technology). He invented the LED throwies, the L.A.S.E.R Tag and the EyeWriter Project.
Oh, just watch the video… All this is going to take hours to explain otherwise…

Unusual street art by this “French artist out of Madrid“ (Yeah, I’m not quite sure how that works, either….) Bold forms, either bright colors or stark black and white, on walls (inside or out), on canvas, on paper or in 3D. Sometimes huge, sometimes not. Hand drawn typography. Lots of collaborations. Influences from early NY graffiti to Art Nouveau (or so I’m told….)

I recently discovered this site, bumbling across the double-U’s. A very happy accident, indeed…
10min4walls is made by Rebekah Lynn Potter. She visits artists of al kinds (musicians, street artists, dancers, painters, photographers and what not…) and talks to them. Simple as that. The results are short, 10 minute interviews, a brief look into the work and life of these people.
I love this sort of thing, you know that by now… Studio visits, artists talks,… Can’t get enough of them. What’s special about this series of interviews is that Rebekah goes to talk, not only to the famous and successful artist, but speaks with various people at different stages of their careers.
Here’s one of the videos to wet your appetite (a visit to Skewville), but be sure to check out some of the others on 10min4walls.
At the time of this writing, Rebekah did 8 interviews, all around Brooklyn. She hopes to expand the show in the future, visiting cities all across the US. Also, when she started this project, Rebekah had no formal training as a journalist whatsoever. She just dived in with some cheap and basic equipment and a lot of curiosity. Now, she would like to get herself some better stuff, to make it all look that little bit more professional. To do so, she launched a fundraising campaign at Kickstarter. Check it out if you think this is something you would like to support…

Sten and Lex are Italian street artists who enjoy coming up with their very own special techniques. They often work with stencils which they cut out of paper and paste on wood. When they pull back the stencil they leave some of it pasted on, hereby creating a not-reproducible piece which they call a “stencil poster”. (You can see a video of this here).
In a recent piece they made a painted poster of 26x12 meters on the side of a building in Garbatella, a neighborhood where they are crazy about football (soccer) and the club AS Roma. The images on the poster are a wolf and Totti, the captain of the club. Check out the video below…

Mr. Niels ‘Shoe’ Meulman from Holland does something called “calligraffiti”. Now, I am not sure what to make of all this, to be quite honest. To me it kind of sort of looks like someone who has had some calligraphy-classes and wasn’t to bad at it, and then decided to make it a lot cooler by suggesting it has something to do with graffiti… Oh well, I guess everybody is allowed to make a living somehow. And it does result in some nice calligra…phyti…thingies. Especially the one who look like they are still wet.

Let’s check out what Mr Shoe looks like in person on this video, found on the Nalden blog, which I hear is the site to be these days. (Yeah, I don’t know how I ended up there, either. Normally I’m never at the place to be. Very strange…)
