Nokia Pure Typeface Video

Magical Snap - 2011.04.11 10.36 - 005

I saw this video on a Monday morning and even then I couldn’t be fooled by it… Sure, it’s probably a nice typeface, but was it absolutely necessary to jump on board of the “letterpress-revival” just to pretend to be (here comes the magic word)  “authentic”. Ooooh, we are so “authentic”. Look at us!

Please.

I’m getting a bit tired of “authentic”. Can’t somebody claim to be fake for a change?

The video was made by Build. The typeface created by Dalton Maag. The letterpress run by paekakarikipress.

Call of Duty – Black Ops

I’m not into videogames at all, don’t know anything about them, really. But when I saw this trailer for the Call of Duty – Black Ops game I was pleasantly surprised about the nice retro-graphics and “cold war era”-feel this thing has got going…

Pelé

Santander - Pelé from Isabella Papa on Vimeo.

A very short little video, which I know nothing about. It’s Pelé. It’s painted. I like it. Enjoy.

Edit: A helpful friend of Monsieur Bandit on twitter gives this as a translation: “Pele says he couldn't do more than 1000 goals alone without the help of the others. Football is a team game. Everybody ( the team) wins” and mentions it is an “ad for santander bank - sponsor for libertadores cup.  (Follow the example, let's do it together.)”  -  Thanks @marciawch

Giants!

A little while ago, I showed you someone who saw little people in the streets. Today,  we spot giants. (Perhaps you think it would be much harder to see little people, but I’m not entirely sure about that. Food for thought, huh?)

The photographer responsible for these is François Serveau. The images were used as part of a promotional campaign for  the “Pronomade(s) en Haute-Garonne” for the “Centre National des arts de la rue”, a collaboration between Helmo and Bonnefrite.

Jazz covers (2): Reid Miles

No Jazz album cover is more a Jazz album cover than a Reid Miles Blue Note Jazz album cover. His designs became close to iconic. To many people, they simple are what Jazz looks like.

My friend P (Hi, P!) and I recently made a comic book with jazz stories, packaged in a record sleeve. Guess what we decided it should look like? Right. (Check out the design and a sneak peek at the comic here if you haven’t seen it before…)

I’ve been wanting to dedicate a post to these record cover designs for quite a while, but in a way, it just seemed kind of obsolete to do so. You’ve all seen them before, right? Ah, well…

Yesterday, however, I happened upon a nice little video. (A promo for the concerts at the Bellavista Social Pub). Check it out:

Et voila! Problem solved. Finally got Reid Miles featured on Monsieur Bandit. Well, sort of, anyway…

If you want to see more of the original Miles’ record covers, or read a bit about him, check out some of these articles: Thinking Miles ahead on d|visible or The Jazzy Blue Notes on Retinart. Also worth checking are these two posts on the Fontfeed-blog: Almost Blue and Reid Miles typography. To see the most extensive collection of Blue Note covers I know of, go to the Vintage Vanguard.

Pinkman: Alberto Mielgo

This weekend someone send me a link to some great animation videos (Thanks, R1cardo!) made by a Spanish guy named Alberto Mielgo. Apart from being an animator, he also works as an art director, freelance painter and designer and, as if that’s not enough, he makes comics as well…  The animated films are very short, but quite impressive. Pinkman seems to be a teaser for something longer (I hope). I’m actually not quite sure where all this is going so let’s just take a peek at some of them…

There are some more videos to be found here. Do check them out. Or visit Mielgo’s site www.albertomielgo.com, his blog www.albertomielgo.blogspot.com or the Pinkman.TV site. I’ll leave you with some more of his artwork…

As I said, the man does comics too. Here are some excerpts from an Escapist-project and from his two graphic novels “The asparagus Seeker” and “A None Title Story”, made together with his writer-friend Rodrigo Ashorn.
