Learn how to draw…

gesture

Oh man, what a goldmine!

This guy, Rad Sechrist, is a storyboard artist at DreamWorks and he does this blog called Rad How To were he basically explains “how to draw”. Nothing more and nothing less. He posts sketches and drawings with explanations, comments on what he does exactly and why he does it. Well, there’s no point in going on and on about it. Get over there and see for yourselves. If you want to learn how to draw, or how to draw better, this is where you want to be. Go!

(Yeahyeahyeah, I know I’m supposed to try and keep you here as long as possible, reading my stuff, but this is way better, so scoot!)

(You’ll come back tomorrow, wont you?)

Analog Photoshop

If you don’t know what to do with your Saturday afternoon, and don’t want to waste yet another day on that booooooring internet (ahum…), here’s something you might like. All you need is a Polaroid PoGo-thingy. Me, I had never heard of such a thingy, but apparently it is a digital version of the old Polaroid camera which lets you print the pictures you made right there and then. These guys here have found some ways to play and tamper with the results and they made a very nice video about it…

Gimp tips and tricks: splash page

Since I posted the first Gimp-tutorial a few days ago I realized that having a Dutch-language Gimp could be confusing or inconvenient for posting tuts. So since I had to change that, I took the opportunity to install the animation-thingy Gap as well. I don’t really know how it works or what to do with it (yet) but it looked interesting…Magical Snap - 2010.01.03 23.39 - 017

While I was fiddling around I discovered something else: apparently, you can easily change the splash page of Gimp, the window you get when the program is loading. I always disliked the picture there (sorry, Wilbur) so I quickly made something to replace it. It’s kind of basic, but for now it will do. Maybe later on I’ll make a more elaborate version.

To do this, you need to make an image 300 pixels wide and 400 high. Then, you simply replace the previous picture with yours. You will find it at C:\program files\gimp-2.0\share\gimp\2.0\images. Give the existing splash picture file a different name if you don’t want to loose it and name your picture gimp-splash.png. Done. When you restart Gimp, you’ll have your new splash page.
