Tech : E-reader

Alright, I’m a dinosaur. Show me something like this and I don’t know whether to stop drooling or start ranting about the good old days when things to read were made out of paper… ah, paper!

What we see here is some kind of magazine, but I wonder what it could look like if it was a comic book? The specific properties of comics, being a visual storytelling medium with static, juxtaposed images (roughly the Scott McCloud definition if I remember correctly) seem to fit awkwardly with all the moving around which is made possible with these. And when the pictures start moving, at which point is it going to stop being a comic?

Or am I thinking too much like a dinosaur again?

Well, I agree with you at some point. You canot compare the joy of reading a magazine or a book, the whole process of selecting and buying it in a bookstore etc. On the other hand...hmm...I suppose that we should adjust ourelves to the new ear...shouldn't we? Dunno...I'm quite sceptical....

Hello Lefteris. Thx for your comment. You are the very first "real" person to comment on my blog. :)

I recently found an interview with Scott McCloud in a Flemish magazine where he mentioned the notion of "convergence", the idea that all media will blur into one, without clear distinctions. (He doesn't believe in it, btw...). I'll have to research this a bit but when I have, I'll post a follow-up article.
Hey again Gilliom1 (lol, I'm confused...which is your real name?)

I don't think that all media could ever blur into one. I do believe that newspapers are going to die in the short future but all media into one...bah....
