Art 21 is a nonprofit organization (founded in 1997) which has been making documentaries to increase knowledge of contemporary art, ignite discussion and inspire creative thinking.
The New York Close Up series is devoted to artists in the first decade of their professional career who are living and working in New York.
Which is a long and somewhat tedious way to say that they have a whole bunch of really nice “studio visit”-type of videos on their site. You know I love that stuff. Who doesn’t? I’ve selected three videos. My favorites. The first is about a photographer who makes stunning color photograms and has to wear a complete bodysuit and gasmask to do so. And the last one is about a painter who prepares for a show, but somehow is even more about the people who take care of moving the artwork from the studio to the gallery.
