Michael Kenna is said to be one of the most influential landscape-photographers of his generation. Take a look at this short docu for an introduction to his work. There is also a somewhat longer version of this film to be found at www.michaelkenna.net and of course you can see plenty more of his beautiful photographs there. Highly recommended.
As an extra, a small selection of winter landscapes…

I don’t think we ever had fashion-illustrations on Monsieur Bandit. To be honest, most of them don’t do it for me. These did.

This is the work of Craig Crutchfield. He wants to document old signage, afraid that soon they will all be gone. To do so, he uses the negatives from Polaroid films, the part that is usually thrown away. Good concept. Nice results.
Check out his set on Flickr for the full experience…
Crutchfield is a designer at McGarrah Jesse. Follow the link to check out their work.

Inspired by educational films from the 50’s and 60’s. Part live-action, part animation. Strange. Beautiful. About the science of the alphabet and hidden messages carried by language (apparently…). Made by design collective MK12. With its own typeface.

I don’t know what is wrong with me, but I am developing some sort of tendency to appreciate more abstract-looking (and sometimes even downright full-fledged honest-to-goodness real abstract) pictures. It doesn’t hurt, but it worries me…
This is work by Peter Zimmerman from Germany. It’s epoxy resin on canvas.
More work by Zimmerman here.

After an half hour of feverously clicking one photograph after another, I suddenly realize how spot on the title of this blog really is.
And yes, I feel shame.
But only some…

Hillman Curtis is a filmmaker, designer and author. You can spend many a fine time on his site, watching his short films. Do check out the “artist series'”, little documentaries/interviews with people like Milton Glaser, Lawrence Weiner, Paula Scher and Stefan Sagmeister.
The short film below is a good example of the power and beauty of Curtis’s films. Four illustrators (Christoph Niemann, Steve Brodner, Robert Grossman and Viktor Koen) talk about art director Steven Heller. And about illustration, of course. They’re just sitting around a table, talking. Nothing more, nothing less.
I could watch stuff like this all day…

These are photographs of the tarmac at the Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, made by Yann Arthus-Bertrand. They are not monochrome abstract paintings. I guess they could have been.
And in a way, they are.
