dead SEEquences

Made by Fabio Scacchioli in 2009, “dead SEEquences” is a video composed of 3770 frames, edited separately. This makes it a strange blend between film and animation.

This film might be a little NSFW. Apparently it was banned from YouTube for being pornographic.  Ah well,… I’m not getting into that discussion.. Lovers of things beautiful, Feast your eyes. Others, please, there is a whole web out there for you to discover something you do like.

Enjoy.

Call of Duty – Black Ops

I’m not into videogames at all, don’t know anything about them, really. But when I saw this trailer for the Call of Duty – Black Ops game I was pleasantly surprised about the nice retro-graphics and “cold war era”-feel this thing has got going…

Auterche: plyPhon

An unofficial, non-commercial video, made by Lucio Arese.

Every visual element is connected to a sound event; the whole video is intended to be like a sort of virtual score that develops itself in a continued run, according to the music.

The Wobbulator

This device was originally made by video artist Nam June Paik and video engineer Shuya Abe in the 1970’s. It’s some kind of an analog video processor, aka a thing to make cool images on ye old tv-set. Oh, I’m not even going to begin trying to explain all this. It’s way over my head.

If you want more info, check out the Create Digital Motion-blog where I found it, or the Vimeo page of Blair Neal who made the video.

Gastrotypographicalassemblage

Kemistry Gallery in London has been exhibiting the work of legendary designer Lou Dorfsman, art director for CBS network.  The exhibition centers on his most notable creation, the 11 meter wide handmade wooden typographic wall that he named Gastrotypographicalassemblage. With custom type created by Herb Lubalin and Tom Carnase, the wall contains almost 1500 individual characters.

I know, I know… We’ve had a Paul Pope interview before on this blog. And this one isn’t exactly hot from the presses either (it’s two years old, in fact). But for some reason I’ve always found Mr. Pope one of the more interesting comic-creators around. So there you go.

Should designers learn code?

A short interview with Daniel Shiffman, professor at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts and writer of "Learning Processing".

Processing is an open source programming language and environment for people who want to create images, animations, and interactions. Initially developed to serve as a software sketchbook and to teach fundamentals of computer programming within a visual context, Processing also has evolved into a tool for generating finished professional work. Today, there are tens of thousands of students, artists, designers, researchers, and hobbyists who use Processing for learning, prototyping, and production.

For more on Processing, go to http://processing.org.
